Chop stroke.

In tennis, a chop stroke is a plane in the angle towards the player and behind the racquet through the line of flight of the ball and the racket that travel down through it, is greater than 45 degrees and can be 90 degrees. The racquet face passes something off the ball and on the side, cutting, as a man chops wood. The spin and curve is from right to left. Is made with a stiff wrist.

The slice shot only reduced the angle mentioned from 45 degrees down to very small. The racquet face passes either inside or outside the ball, according to the desired direction, while the movement is mainly a wrist twist or slap. It slaps a decided skidding break to the ball, while a chop “drags” the ball of the earth without rest.

The rules of footwork for both these shots should be the same as the unit, but because both are made with a short swing and more wrist play, without weight, the rules of footwork may be safer and rule body position not so carefully considered.

Both vaccines are essentially defensive, and are labor-saving devices when your opponent is on the baseline. A cut or cut is very difficult to drive, and break up any driving game.

Not a shot to use against a volley, as it is too slow to pass and too high to cause any concern. It should be used to drop short, soft shots at the feet of man as he enters the network try not happen to a man with a net cut or cut, except through a large opening.

The drop shot is very soft and hard times cut squarely, played entirely with the wrist. It should drop within 3 to 5 feet of the network to be of some use. The racquet face passes around the outside of the ball and under it with a clear “flick of the wrist.” Do not swing the racquet from the shoulder in making a drop shot. The vaccine has nothing to fall with a stop volley. The vaccine is wrist drop. The stop-volley has no wrist at all.

Use all your wrist shots, cut, slice, and drop, merely as an adjunct to their orthodox game. They aim to disrupt your opponent’s game through the varied rotation on the ball.

The half volley.

This shot requires perfect timing, eyesight, and racquet work than any other, because their margin of safety is smallest and its various possibilities of countless misfortunes.

This is a pick-up. The ball to the ground and racquet face at a time when almost the same, the ball bounces on the floor, on the ropes. This vaccine is hard wrist, short swing, no follow-up as a download. The racquet face travels along the ground at a slight angle on the ball and into the net, thus holding the ball down, throw like everybody else in tennis, you must travel across the racquet face to Over the short chains. The racquet face should always be slightly off the ball.

The average discharge is essentially a defensive move, as should be done only as a last resort, when caught out of position by firing his opponent. This is a desperate attempt to extricate himself from a dangerous situation without flinching. never deliberately half volley.

The position of the Court.

A tennis court is 39 feet long from baseline to the net. There are only two places in a tennis court that a tennis player must wait for the ball.

About 3 feet behind the baseline, about half of the court, or

From 6 to 8 feet behind the net and almost opposite the ball.

The first is the place for all players concerned. The second is the net position.

If you are outside these positions by a shot which you must return, do not stay at the point where he hit the ball, but attain one of the two positions mentioned as soon as possible.

The distance from the baseline to about 10 feet from the net can be considered “no-man’s land” or “blank”. He never stays there, since a deep shot will catch you at your feet. After taking the shot from the blank, as often do, retreat behind the baseline to await the return, so you can retake it to meet the ball. If you are drawn in short and can not retreat safely, continue all the way to the net position.

Never stand and watch your shot, to do so, simply means that they are out of position for his next stroke. Strive to attain a position so that always come at the ball field will be before it arrives. Do your hard running while the ball is in the air, so no hurry in his career after it bounces.

It’s about learning to do this that natural anticipation plays an important role. Some players instinctively know that the performance of the day, and will take place, while others feel it. It’s the kind of the latter, I urge the court position, and recommend always coming from behind the baseline to meet the ball, as it is much easier to run forward than back.

If you are trapped in the network, with a short shot to your opponent, not stand still and let it pass you at will, as it can easily do. Choose the side where you think they will, and jump suddenly, as swings. If correct, wins the point. If you are wrong, you’re worse, since there would be beaten anyway with his shot.

Your position should always strive to be such that you can cover the greatest possible area of court without sacrificing safety, since the straight shot is the surest, most dangerous, and must be covered. It is simply a matter of how much more court than that just before the ball can be saved.

A well-grounded knowledge of court position saves many points, not to mention much breath expended in long runs after hopeless shots.

Footwork is weight control. The correct position of body blows, and that strokes should grow. In explaining the various forms of movement and footwork I am writing as a right-hand player. Left-handers simply reverse the feet.

Racquet grip is a very essential part of stroke, because a faulty grip will ruin the best service. It is a natural grip for a forehand up. It is inherently weak for the backhand, as the natural shot is a chop stroke.

To acquire the forehand grip, hold the racquet with the edge of the frame towards the ground and the face perpendicular, the handle toward the body, and “hand” with him, as if greeting a friend. The handle settled comfortably and naturally in the hand, the online arm, hand and racquet are one. The swing brings the racquet head on a line with your arm and racket of all is simply an extension of it.

The backhand grip itself is a quarter circle of the hand on the hilt, so that the hand on top of the handle and the knuckles directly up. The shot travels through the wrist.

This is the best basis for a grip. I do not advocate learning this grip exactly, but the model of your natural grip as much as possible on these lines without sacrificing your own comfort or individuality.

Having once settled the racquet in hand, the next question is body position and order of development of stroke.

All tennis strokes, should be done with the body ‘at right angles to the network, with the shoulders lined up parallel to the flight of the ball. The weight should always travel forward. We must go from standing again to the foreleg at the time of hitting the ball. Never allow the weight to be away from the race. is the weight that determines the “rhythm” of a stroke, swing that, decides the “speed”.

Let me explain the definitions of “speed” and “rhythm”. “Speed” is the real rate with a ball that travels through the air. “Pace” is the impetus that comes from the earth. Pace is weight. It is the “Sting” with the ball when it comes to land, giving the inexperienced or innocent player a shock of force which the stroke in no way showed.

A large number of players have “speed” and “rhythm”. Some shots may carry both.

The order of learning strokes should be:

The unit. Fore and backhand. This is the foundation of all tennis, because you can not build a network from attack unless you have ground motion to open the road. Nor can meet a net attack successfully unless you can drive, since it is the only crossing shot success.

The Service.

The Volley and Smash air.

The Court or the half volley and other incidental and ornamental strokes.

Tennis psychology is nothing more than understanding the workings of the mind of your opponent, and evaluate the effect of its own game in his mental viewpoint, and understanding the mental effects resulting from the various external causes on your own mind. You can not be a successful psychologist of others without understanding their own mental processes, it is necessary to study the effect itself of the same happening under different circumstances. You react differently in different moods and under different conditions. You must realize the effect on the game of irritation, pleasure, confusion, or in any way your reaction is. Does it increase efficiency? If so, fight for it, but never give your opponent.

Are you deprived of concentration? If so, either remove the cause, or if this is not possible try to ignore it.

Once you have judged accurately your own reaction to conditions, study their opponents, to decide their temperaments. Like temperaments react similarly, and you may judge men of their own kind for himself. Opposing temperaments should seek to compare with people whose reactions you know.

A person who can control their own mental processes stands an excellent chance to read another, for the functioning of the human mind along definite lines of thought, and can be studied. One can only control one’s own mental processes after carefully studying them.

A steady phlegmatic baseline player is seldom a keen thinker. If it was that do not adhere to the baseline.

The physical appearance of a man is often a very clear indicator to the type of mind. The stolid, easy-going man, who usually advocates the reference game, does so because he hates to stir up his mind to think of a clumsy safe method of reaching the network. Another type of baseline player, who prefers to remain at the bottom of the track, while the direction of an attack intended to break the game. It is a very dangerous player, and a deep, keen thinking antagonist. It achieves its results by mixing up his length and direction, and concern with the variety of his game. He is a good psychologist. The first type of player mentioned only hits the ball with little idea of what he is doing, while the latter always has a definite plan and adheres to it. The strong, erratic, net-rushing player is a creature of impulse. There is no real system of his attack, no understanding of his game. He will make brilliant coups on the spur of the moment, largely by instinct, but there is, the mental power of coherent thought. This is an interesting, fascinating type.

The dangerous man is the player who mixes his style plane back to court in the direction of a mind always alert. This is the man to study and learn. He is a player with a definite purpose. A player who has an answer for every query that are presented in their game. He is the most subtle antagonist in the world. He is the school of Brookes. Second only to him is the man of dogged determination that sets his mind on one plan and adheres to it, bitterly, fiercely fighting to the end, with never a thought of change. He is the man that psychology is easy to understand, but whose mental viewpoint is hard to upset, because you never stop thinking about anything other than the business in question. This man is your Johnston or your Wilding. I respect the mental capacity of Brookes more, but I admire the tenacity of purpose of Johnston.

Choose the type of their own mental processes, and then develop his game along the lines that best suits you.

When two men are in the same class as stroke teams, the determining factor in any given match is the mental viewpoint. Luckily, the so-called, is often grasping the psychological value of a pause in the game and makes it his own.

We have heard much about the “shots we’ve done.” Few realize the importance of the “shots we’ve lost.” The science of missing shots is as important as making them, and sometimes miss by an inch is of more value than the return that is killed by his opponent.

Let me explain. A player that takes you away from court with a firing angle. Difficult to implement, and far-reaching, hard and fast on the sideline, losing by an inch. Your opponent is surprised and shaken, realizing that your shot might well have gone in and out. Be expected to try it again, and not risk the next time. It will be playing the ball, and can fall into error. Have you taken any way the confidence of your opponent, and increased its chances of error, all for a ruling.

If only it had come back again, and had been murdered, his opponent has felt increasingly confident of his inability to get the ball out of reach, while only breath would have been without result.

Suppose you made the shot by the band. It was a seemingly impossible to achieve. First, equivalent to two points which was one of his opponent who should have been him and gave him one that should never have taken. It also worries your opponent, as it believes it has drawn a great opportunity.

The psychology of a tennis match is very interesting, but easily understandable. Both men start with equal opportunities. Once a man establishes a real lead, his confidence increases, while his opponent worries, and his mental viewpoint becomes poor. The only purpose of the first man to maintain his lead, keeping their trust. If a second player draws or draws ahead, the inevitable reaction occurs with even greater contrast in psychology. There is the natural confidence of the leader now with the second man and the great stimulus of having turned seeming defeat into probable victory. On the reverse, if the first player tends to hopelessly destroy his game, and collapse follows.
